The short version
- Everything you do in CRIT Run stays on your iPhone or iPad. There is no sign-in, and we have no servers that store your games.
- We use no analytics tools and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- Purchases go through Apple. Apple handles the payment; we never see card details.
- Free players in a normal profile can choose to watch a short rewarded ad from Google AdMob. Child profiles never see ads, and the CRIT Pass removes them.
- Leaderboards use Apple’s Game Center. Child profiles never take part.
About this policy
This policy explains how the CRIT Run app for iPhone and iPad (“CRIT”, “we”, “us”) handles information. CRIT is a learning runner game for everyone, with child profiles for younger players and the grown-ups who look after them. The app is published by Dimitrios Athinaios, who is responsible for it (the “controller” under data protection law).
We built CRIT so that the game itself does not need your personal information. The only outside services are Apple (App Store purchases and Game Center) and, for free players in normal profiles only, Google AdMob (optional rewarded ads).
Child profiles and normal profiles
When CRIT first opens, it asks who the profile is for. The answer stays on the device.
| Child profile | Normal profile (about 13+) | |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | Never. The ad software is not even started. | Only rewarded ads the player chooses to watch. None with the CRIT Pass. |
| Leaderboards (Game Center) | Never. Scores are not sent, and the profile never signs in to Game Center. | Scores can go to Game Center, unless the profile’s age is under 13. |
| Real-money purchases | Need the parent PIN first. | Through Apple, behind a grown-up gate. |
| Game data | Stays on the device for both kinds of profile. | |
A parent sets a PIN when making a child profile. Switching a child profile to a normal one needs that PIN.
What CRIT keeps on your device
To work, the app saves a few things only on the device, in the app’s private storage. We do not receive a copy.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Profiles: a nickname, an age or school year, the profile type, chosen subjects and the look of the profile card | To pick questions at the right level, greet the player, and know whether ads and leaderboards are allowed. |
| The parent PIN (stored scrambled) and its hint | To protect purchases and settings for a child profile. |
| Progress: answers per topic, scores, stars, streaks, Story levels, play time | To adapt the difficulty and show progress. |
| In-game items: coins, gems, chests, characters and power-ups | So the player keeps them. |
| Purchase status (which CRIT Pass plan or pack is active) | To unlock what was bought. Apple’s StoreKit confirms it on the device. |
| Settings: sound, music, haptics, motion, difficulty, play time | So the app behaves the way it was set up. |
Nicknames. The nickname is chosen in the app, goes through a kid-safe word filter, and stays on the device. It is not sent to us, to Game Center or to Google.
Deleting it. Use Delete all data in the grown-ups area of the app, or delete the app. Because we never received a copy, nothing is left with us afterwards. iOS may include the app’s storage in your own iCloud or computer backup; that backup is controlled by you and Apple.
Rewarded ads (free players, normal profiles only)
Free players in a normal profile can choose to watch a rewarded ad to continue after losing in Endless or Rule Rush, or to open a free daily chest. Watching is always optional. There are no banner or pop-up ads. There are no ads in a child profile, and none with the CRIT Pass.
Google AdMob
The ads come from Google AdMob (Google LLC, or Google Ireland Limited in the EEA, UK and Switzerland). The ad software only starts the first time a player in a normal profile taps to watch an ad. When it runs, Google may process:
- your IP address and an approximate location worked out from it (country or city, not GPS);
- device and app information: device type, iOS and app version, language;
- identifiers that are limited to this app and do not track you across other companies’ apps;
- information about the ads: which were shown and whether they were watched or tapped, plus crash and performance data from the ad software.
Google uses this to serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud. Ads are non-personalised by default. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent form (Google’s User Messaging Platform) asks first, and you can change your choice later from the privacy choices in the app’s settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s Privacy Policy.
No tracking. CRIT does not track you across other companies’ apps and websites, so it does not ask for Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission. If we ever offered personalised ads, Apple’s prompt would ask first and nothing would change unless you allowed it; we would update this policy before then.
Younger players. If a normal profile’s age is under 13, every ad request is marked as directed to children (COPPA and the GDPR’s under-age setting) and only general-audience ads are allowed.
Leaderboards with Game Center
CRIT has monthly and all-time leaderboards run by Apple Game Center. Only a normal profile whose age is 13 or over takes part; a child profile, or a profile under 13, never signs in to Game Center and never submits a score.
When a score is sent, Apple receives it with your Game Center account. Other players see your Game Center name (which you set with Apple) next to the score, not your CRIT nickname. Apple handles your Game Center account and friends under the Apple Privacy Policy. You can turn Game Center off in iOS Settings → Game Center.
Purchases
CRIT is free to play. You can buy the optional CRIT Pass (a monthly subscription with a 7-day free trial, or a one-time Lifetime purchase) and coin and gem packs. Purchases use Apple’s StoreKit directly; we use no other payment or purchase-checking service.
Apple handles the purchase, the payment and the receipt. We never see card details, your name or your Apple Account email. The app reads Apple’s signed transaction information on the device only to unlock what you bought. Subscriptions are managed in your Apple account (Settings → your name → Subscriptions).
What we never collect or do
- No accounts or sign-in. No email addresses, phone numbers or passwords.
- No analytics. We add no analytics, crash-reporting or attribution tools.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps and websites.
- No location, camera, microphone, contacts or photos. CRIT does not ask for these permissions.
- No chat, no sharing, no user-generated content and no push notifications.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we never send the player’s nickname, age or progress to anyone.
Children’s privacy
CRIT is made for everyone, including children. We follow the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the children’s provisions of the EU and UK GDPR, and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
- We do not collect personal information from children. The nickname and progress never leave the device.
- A child profile is high-privacy by default: no ads, no ad software, no leaderboards, nothing to opt out of.
- A parental gate sits in front of every purchase, restore, subscription page and link out of the app. A child profile also needs the parent PIN for anything that costs money.
- Players under 13 should use a child profile. If a normal profile says the player is under 13, ads are limited as in section 4 and leaderboards are off.
If you believe a child’s personal information has reached us, write to us (section 12) and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Because the game data stays on your device, you can see, change and delete it yourself in the app. For ad data held by Google or purchase and Game Center data held by Apple, you can use their privacy tools, or contact us and we will help. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
For the EU and UK: the game data on your device is not processed by us. Ad consent is collected by Google’s consent form where the law needs it; Google acts as an independent controller for its advertising and may transfer data to the United States under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security and retention
Game data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and the device’s own encryption, and is kept until you delete it or the app. Connections to Apple and Google are encrypted (HTTPS). Apple keeps purchase and Game Center records, and Google keeps ad data, under their own policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how CRIT handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. If a change would mean collecting personal information from children, we will not make it without first getting verifiable consent from a parent, as the law requires.
